The curriculum

OVERALL, WHAT IS THE DREI CURRICULUM?
DREI's curriculum comprises all the programs and courses that are offered to the public. It is constantly refined and enhanced so to cope with the imperatives of the ever-changing real estate market. It is also periodically enriched with best practice cases and examples and checked for compliance with quality assurance standards.
WHAT ARE THE COURSES OFFERED BY DREI
We have a wide array of courses that are offered throughout the academic year. In broader terms, we have four main categories of courses: (1) Executive courses, (2) Academic courses, (3) Certification courses, and (4) Customized courses.
FINE, HOW DO I DISTINGUISH BETWEEN THESE TYPES OF COURSES?
Very simple, we start with Certification courses, these are courses that are mandatory in order to be entitled to obtain a certification either locally or internationally. The executive courses are courses that are designed for professionals (and/or aspiring to be professionals) in the real estate market, so expect these courses to adopt a hands-on, industry-based approach in contrast with the academic courses which tend to be lengthier and where the focus is more balanced between the conceptual framework and the practical aspects. As for the customized course, these are courses that are fully designed and conducted following specific requests, usually conducted either for individuals, small groups or for specifically for organizations.
HOW CAN I GET MORE DETAILS ON THESE COURSES?
All the details you need about all and each of our courses are on our website www.drei.gov.ae should you need more in-depth information, please get in touch with our customer service team via info.drei@dubailand.gov.ae, and/or via our call center +971 4 800 4488
ARE THESE COURSES OFFERED ELSEWHERE IN DUBAI?
DREI, being the educational arm of Dubai Land Department, is the only and only entity that is entitled to provide recognized certification courses. Hence, most of the courses making up our curriculum are fully accredited, and therefore we do not recommend taking them elsewhere (unless offered through a third party that is fully licensed by DREI).
CLEAR, ARE YOU DELIVERING ANY COURSE THROUGH A LICENSED THIRD PARTY?
No, for the time being all the courses are fully designed, developed and conducted by DREI. Even the academic courses that are offered by our partner academic institutions (locally and internationally) are thoroughly examined for conformance with our curriculum.
ARE ALL THE COURSES MANDATORY?
No. Only the certification courses are mandatory as you cannot obtain the corresponding certification without taking the courses and sitting for the relevant exam (if exam applies).
THEN IF THE OTHER COURSES ARE NON-MANDATORY, WHY WOULD I TAKE THEM
well they may not be mandatory from formal standpoint, but it is obvious that the knowledge you would acquire from these courses would definitely give you an edge over competitors, be it actual business, or career-related competitors.
LET ME SEE...OK, HOW MANY DID YOU MANAGE TO TRAIN SINCE YOU STARTED
We have successfully trained more than 80.000 since 2007 a large percentage of them are active participants in the DREI learning experience, through their insights, recommendations, referrals and loyalty.

ARE THEY THE SAME AS RERA COURSES?
There is no such a thing as RERA courses. All real estate courses that are mandatory for either obtaining and renewing the RERA license are exclusively offered by DREI. So, in short, DREI courses are a pre-requisite for obtaining /renewing your RERA/DLD lincense(s).
BUT WHY MY COLLEAGUES KEEP SAYING RERA COURSES?
Well, may be they are making a shortcut to mean the courses of DREI that are needed to get or renew the RERA license. Here's an easy way to remember this: Whenever it comes to education/knowledge it is DREI, whenever it comes to licensing and regulating the market it is RERA, both are sister entity under the umbrella of DLD (Dubai Land Department).
NOW IT IS CLEAR...BUY WHY IS COMPULSORY TO TAKE A CERTIFICATION COURSE?
It is mandatory since the market needs to be safeguarded and since our role is to ensure that real estate professionals are knowledgeable, fully aware of the ethical and legal requirements and standards of practice, fully able to maintain high quality standards of their services. To ensure all this, no certification will be issued or renewed without taking the corresponding courses (and exams if it applies).
WHO IS REQUIRED TO TAKE THE RENEWAL EXAM?
No. Only the certification courses are mandatory as you cannot obtain the corresponding certification without taking the courses and sitting for the relevant exam (if exam applies).
THEN IF THE OTHER COURSES ARE NON-MANDATORY, WHY WOULD I TAKE THEM
All real estates professionals working in sales, marketing, all consultants, agents, brokers, time share-related, property officers, real estate managers, other designees holding an existing brokers card along with other categories as stipulated by the licensing authorities. Owners and Managers whose names are mentioned on the trade license are exempted from the renewal examination.
I DO NOT HAVE A LICENSE YET, CAN I TAKE THE COURSE AND SIT FOR THE EXAM AS WELL?
Definitely, you are not only required by law to take the course and sit for the corresponding exam, but it is highly recommended for you to take the most of the course and the learning experience as you are about to start a new phase of your professional career.

The certifications + examination

DO THE CERTIFICATION COURSES COME WITH AN EXAM? IS IT COMPULSORY AS WELL?
Yes, absolutely, all our certification courses come with an exam towards the end of the course. Hence as a general norm, both taking the course and passing the exam are a sine-qua-non condition for obtaining/renewing the license....(Oh! Sine-qua-non means essential condition....which in turns means mandatory!)
ARE WE TALKING ABOUT LOCAL OR INTERNATIONAL CERTIFICATION COURSES HERE?
We are talking about both....that is both type have an exam component. However the type of exam and the required scores are different according to the type of certification.
CAN I TAKE THE EXAM WITHOUT SITTING FOR THE COURSE?
The only ones who are entitled to take the exam without sitting for the course are those submitting their license for renewal.
OK SO SINCE THE PASSING GRADE WAS MENTIONED, WHAT IS IT?
For local certification courses it is of 75% for timeshare, diploma and brokers; 75% for property management and real estate valuers certifications and 70% for the Community Association CAI certification. As for the international certification courses, it is of 70% for the CIPS, ABR, and CRB.
CAN I ASK WHAT TYPE OF EXAM IS IT? AND HOW MANY QUESTIONS?
Well, exams differ. They are designed and developed in accordance with several criteria including the course material, our quality standards, best practices in assessment design, partner institutions guidelines...etc...So, coming back to your question, for local certification courses (Online exam) its 50 multiple choice questions for time share, real estate brokers, real estate valuers, property managers and diploma whereas for CAI courses they are around 80 multiple choice questions. As for the international certification courses, it is a manual exam with 25 to 50 multiple choice questions.
SOUNDS TOUGH! WHAT IS IF FAIL MY EXAM?
Not really tough if you do the necessary preps and benefit from the course. Yet, in case you fail, you will be entitled to retake the exam after paying a fee of 200 AED.
OK, WHAT IF I RETAKE THE EXAM AND I RE-FAIL IT
in this case, you have to study much harder, and focus during the exam. there is another chance for you to re-re-sit for it and re-re-take it, but then, you have to re-re-pay another 200 AED.
